Where the  hell's that on-off switch?
I know it must be there.
I'm searching like a madman but
Can't find it anywhere.

You know the one I'm speaking of?
The one that's for the heart?
The one that makes one's passion for
Another stop and start?

I'd like to simply put it in
The "off" mode when you're gone
Then, when you come back 'round again,
I can just flip it on!

But, though I feel love for many,
Which we all can do
Passion in my mind cannot be
Shared by more than two.

Even when there is no future
Obvious in view
I can't give myself to others
If desire's for you.

So I am in a quandry here
And I hurt from the pains..
My body will not function while
Desire for you remains.

I know it's gotta be there 'cause
I've seen it used by you
So where the hell's that on-off switch
So I can use it, too?

Hey deer, I've searched for one of those myself, even went to Homebase...I asked the nice man with a smile and green apron and he made a pass at me...go figure...Loved your poem, but tis sad.

Balladeer.....

I think she left it by the door,
the night she said goodbye...
she turned it off, then said no more,
a tear fell from her eye...

But if you look, I'm sure you'll find
the switch you need, within...
To block the memories from your mind,
And set it right, again...

I think we are all looking for the same magic switch!  Wonderful poem, Mr. 'Deer!!

I'm looking too, m'butterbean...sigh.  Why can't I find it, when "he" always seems to know where it is?  HUGS

Wonderful concept Michael! I loved this ... beautifully written, and the flow is superb as always my deer man.  Now I ask you (shuffling feet and looking stupid here) ... do you mean to tell me there actually IS a switch??? And all this time, I just thought my circuits were going squirrely!

Excellent poem, much enjoyed your theme in this!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Great poem!

I'm looking for the switch too,
I'll let you know, if I find it before you.

That on-off switch is right next to that red-green button right...over...there...

Oh deer .. ya write me heart with this one.
i have coined this phrase many times...
it does seem as if some people have a switch to just be able to shut off emotions...
i always figure it a defense mechanism of some kind..
and while I often think it might be nice to have it when we are really hurting...
when i comes down to it...I think I'd rather
feel it and then purge it thru poetry...
like you have done here with your usual wisdom ...
brought to mind a fav song of mine...
expressing the same sentiments.....
when im feeling this way...it always makes me feel better to hear this song...
hugs of understanding sweets ...

It's amazing
how you make your face just like a wall
how you take your heart and turn it off
how I turn my head and lose it all

It's unnerving
how just one move puts me by myself
there you go just trusting someone else
now I know I put us both through hell

I'm not saying
there wasn't nothing wrong
I just didn't think you'd ever get tired of me
I'm not saying
we ever had the right to hold on
I just didn't wanna let it get away from me

But if that's how it's gonna leave
straight out from underneath
then we'll see who's sorry now
If that's how it's gonna stand, when
you know you've been depending on
the one you're leaving now
the one you're leaving out

It's aggravating
how you threw me on
and you tore me out
how your good intentions turn to doubt
the way you needed time to sort it out

Tell me is that how it's going to end
when you know you've been depending on
the one you're leaving now
and the one you're leaving out

Balladeer~

I'd never presume to know
if you were OFF or ON
But I'd like to be on target
with some button-pushing of my own.

If I get too far away
You know just what to do
Just push yourbutton
and I'll come right back to YOU !

Here's *winking* at ya'

I KNEW this would be another one that I unerstood completely. I am searching for the same switch. I just wrote in "feelings" about it. How do you do it. Stop loving and wanting someone, so you can move on?  I hope you find the switch, you deserve to stop the pain. It doesn't make sense to love one that doesn't love us back. But the heart has no rules, and the switch remains lost at Home Depot..

PS, I love the way you wrote this, very clever description.

i'd like to know who you saw use this so-called 'on-off' switch myself...

i guess some switches are turn-ons and some are turn-offs and it's just a matter of figuring out how not to use the latter at all....

but a flat-out on-off switch for feelings?? geez... if one exists, i wouldn't even know how to find it...

what a poem, michael!

Again, God must have really slipped...
For with this switch, I'm not equipped.
Unless I rip out heart and brain
I know no way to stop the pain
But would even a lobotomy
Stop this wishing for what can't be?

Great write, Balladeer. I know exactly of what you speak.  Another thing, once you finally switch it off, it can come back on whenever it so desires!

Maddening, isn't it?

Mike - this is exactly what my life was a year ago - (much better now that I don't let her come around to turn the switch on!) This spoke loudly to me... I guess it's the relation and the exactness of the feeling you presented. Won't say well-done.. instead, just: Thanks.

Chris

Janet - Yeah - cried over that one too.
