The saddest sound I ever heard
Came not from wren or mockingbird
Nor vulture winging blackened sky
Producing melancholy cry.
No winter winds that weep and moan
Can e'er come close to match the tone
Resembling death's lullaby -

The sound of when she said goodbye.

The saddest sound I ever heard
Exuded from that single word
To echo through the valleys of
A heart that had been filled with love
Then covered earth with darkened cloud
To make the heavens cry out loud.
My greatest tragedy occurred
With that - the saddest sound I've heard.

Your poem is filled with so much saddness.
I don't know what I'd do if he ever said good bye to me.

Balladeer--The loudest, the sadest, the sound of goodbye is just what you say...the sound of love closing the door hurts.  Great poem, deer.

Icy winds consumed my very soul,
Just from the look.
I stood,
Frozen in the moment,
Rooted to the cold earth,
I became,
A twisted , lifeless tree,
Stripped of the leaves of love,
With gnarled barren branches held upwards.,
I cried,
In an feeble effort to summon the heavens.
Then she turned away,
And said goodbye

As you can see...I know that feeling...nice read Balladeer

Deer this made me really think back. I too know that awful feeling of being said goodbye too and living alone. This was so sad but so beautifully written.

Balladeer - this is the first time you have brought tears to my eyes.  It takes a poem with great love and sorrow to do that.  And I have been there, and I know - and your words "the tone Resembling death's lullaby - " about the saying of good-bye, are excellently thought out.  Too good, dear sir.  Too good.  Excellent.  And my heart goes out to you for having known this anguish.

Balladeer~

Tugging heartstrings you are.
Wonderfully woven phrases that show
you're not only a tremendous poet ...
but kissed with the marvelous sensitivity of a sweetheart !

The saddest sound I ever heard
came from the deadened silent word.
A look of nothingness in eyes,
When words non-loving reached my sighs.
And how I gasped to breathe the air,
To purify that deadened stare
Forget not ever, the shock unheard
From that deadened look of silent word.

I, too know that feeling, Balladeer. ~soft huggz to all that have felt it.

Ball,
Oh, so sad! So many types of 'good bye' come to mind.
I think this is so beautiful and sad. Your heart was in the middle of this one. Good job. Marcy

bal--

your words have taken my words. i am
just about speechless. you brought a
tear to my eye. to say this is sad would
be an understatement. you sir write with
a grace and style that i truly envy!
and you put your heart into whatever you
write, no matter what it's about. but THIS
this was like nothing i read from you!
i think i've read your heart. and it
pains me to know that you know such pain.
hugs to you my friend.
take care.
