This is the Valley of the Mountains;
Where all the kings are bred.
Baptized in the public fountains;
But sleep in privite beds.

Picked at a ripe age,
To lead their people well.
Employs the minister, the scrib, the sage,
And protects them from Heaven's Hell.

But one king does stand out,
More from all the rest.
She was true, devout.
Certainly the best.

"Sweet Sapius, look what thou'st done,
To a city that was once over-run
By all the rogues and theives alike
Cancel your steads, call back the pikes.
The city ist thine."

"Trade and currency will bare thy bust,
As ordered by the public trust.
Stamp hither, thy profile grand.
And thou willest be known outside this land."

"Speak with us kindly,
Or to us, thou sings.
But feed us blindly,
And forget thou ist king."

Sleeping, the contented people were deaf,
So they could not rise where they lay.
When approached, a creature of death,
The dreaded noctuidae.

Not in hundreds, or thousands for sure,
But millions, on the fly to their lure.
'T was the thriving fructus plants,
Which arroused the lepidoptera and tants.

"Ignorant Sapius, look what thou'st done!
Thou hast alowed the anual insect run!
The trees are bare, and the bushes brown!
Who's with me in fleeing this town?"

Sapius looked and was marvaled by the rate,
At which those tiny leaches ate.
Unalarmed and audasity to joke,
Their once revered leader spoke...

"Public, oh people, listen to me,
This earth owns all within.
The cattle, the stones, even this tree,
To oppose, is to sin"

"You may leave, you may stay,
It's all up to you.
But realize, I make this offer today,
To our most recent visitors too."

And with that, her final desicion made,
Next the bed in which she laid.
Unconcerned for her peoples' will,
She sat and sat, and sat there still.

There were few,
but some none the less,
Who decided to,
Stay and progress.

"We vowed faith to our leader,
And we stay on promise.
We'll replant the feeder,
If thou remain'st ominous"

Sapius watched while the insects stay,
Consuming more morale than fruit eachday.
And when the stock was picked totally clean,
The flies would mate and leave their offspring.

While most thought this was an omen of death,
When there was nothing but larvae left,
Sweet Sapius was much more wise,
And she unheaded her peoples' cries.

"Ready your sticks,
And ready your stones.
Soon you can fix,
What I did condone."

"Our harvest was lost,
I won't deny that.
But at what cost?
You were already fat!"

"When drout, then flood.
The cycle plays through.
Now ready for blood,
Because I love you"

"The bores and the swine,
Who also wish to dine,
Will be looking for a meal to eat.
So we'll oblige,
Then hum our dirige,
As their skulls, we begin to beat!"

It's just a stupid war myth I made up...  Sapia is pronounced Suh-Pee-Yuh, by the way

This self-reply is a shameful attempt to get the poem high on the list before it's drowned out by all the better ones...
