Your smile was the axis
My world turned upon
But one day I blinked
And learned you were gone.
I gave you my heart
And endeavored to please.
Now the screams of "WHY?"
Drop me down to my knees.
Was I so awful?
Did beauty I lack?
What made you walk off
And never look back?
You made me feel special.
You called me your friend.
Did you mean a word
Or did you pretend?
Does it bother you
This pain that I feel?
I question my mind.
Was one moment real?
This incessant heartache
Makes me quite deranged.
I don't understand.
What happened? What changed?
Do you even remember?
Do my memories lie?
It gives me no comfort
Knowing I tried.
Were we doomed from the start?
Was I stupid to trust?
I believed in forever
Now my dreams are dust.
Could you tell me when
You made you decision
I was unworthy
Of all but derision?
Or do thoughts of me
Bother your mind?
Will I ever again
My sanity find?
Most times I wish
You'd just gone ahead
And ripped out my heart.
I'm the living dead.

First off welcome to Passions...the place where a million hugs are to be found.  Time in itself will heal and fianlly give the answers but it is the in between times that seem to stand still. LOVELY verse from you and look forward to your healing with us.

Welcome to Passions,

Were we doomed from the start?
   Was I stupid to trust?
   I believed in forever
   Now my dreams are dust.

I'm sure we've all been there before.  As a pessimest I would say we're always doomed from the start.  But we can't let that idea stop us.  We must start.  We must always allow some degree of trust.  And if it doesn't work out, we will always have another dream.

I really loved your poem.  Please keep sharing more.  You won't be rejected here.

I am in the beginning stages of a relationship right now and it would hurt me very much if I was rejected because I am trying to trust and I am giving from my heart.  I know the hurt you are talking about when you say "Most times I wish you had just gone ahead and ripped out my heart."
Hope you are alright...Take care..James

Welcome to Passions, first of all...and I really liked this post...reminded me much of another memorable debut---"you oughtta know" by Alannis Morisette...well spoken, and to the point.

The one line:

"Was I so awful"

Makes you catch your breath, for it is "the" question that haunts when find yourself alone. I really like this.

Welcome to Passions, reject. (it is going to be hard calling you that, as it is an insult where I am)
"Was I stupid to trust?"
Never! They were stupid to break that trust. If you do your best for someone and they walk away, it's their loss!
Take care and keep writing, it helps so much, and so do the people here.

A sincere thanks to each of you for reading, liking and extending a welcome.
Mark and jlocke - I'm not sure I believe in hugs or dreams anymore, but I appreciate your comments.
jmlee - I wish you luck. No one gives their love expecting things to end badly. If you see deterioration, you have a chance to make things right. But sometimes, even hindsight doesn't give any clues. I hope you're spared the experience.
serenity - That reminder is an incredible compliment. I don't deserve it, but I thank you for it.
seraphin - And no one answers the question, so it keeps haunting. Thank you.
Dee - It's not the identity I would have chosen, but it's what I am. Thank you for your welcome.

Reject, welcome to passions. Excellent poem. Maybe we can help you change your name from reject to perfect.
Be well

I know the pain of loveing someone one minute, then they turn on you, deceive you, betray your love, rejecting every part of you, You ask yourself why? The answer...it is their problem...not yours, if you gave your best...it wasn't anything you did, or didn't do! anyway welcome to Passions!

Ruth,

What a find - your first post in PiP.  I hope that you believe in hugs and dreams again - this was a heart-wrenching read and I think most of us have been down that road.  It hurts to read now years after you posted it - but I see the dreamer in you. Thank Goodness, you are here.  It would be an emptier place without you.

Thank you so much, lovely ladies... "suthern" has been around forever but "reject" was shortlived... glad you liked! *S*
