--- To My Daughter --- For very long I've pondered, Wondered what to say. How to show you Daddy's love That you should have each day. A poem can not hug you Or hold you when you cry. It cannot give you Daddy's love Or see love in your eyes. One thing that a poem can do Is tell you of my love Of how your Daddy cherishes His sweet gift from above. Not a sunset passes by, That I do not think of you. I had so many dreams of us And all the things we'd do. Playing in the sunlight. Walking at the zoo. Buying you a puppy. Learning all things new. I will not tear down others Or tell you why I'm gone. You will surely learn the Truth one day later on. Just know now that I love you, Always have and always will. Know that when I saw you first Was my life's greatest thrill. Those newborn eyes opened Wide yearning to see all. I'm so proud that Daddy's eyes Were the first you ever saw. Know that when you miss me And wish that I was there I miss more than you can know Know how much I care. I would give my very soul All I ever had. To kiss you "Night night" every day To get to be your Dad. So take these words for now My Love, and let them be a start. One day soon you will know The depths of Daddy's heart.< !signature--> Some men see things as they are and ask "WHY ?" I see things as they could be and ask "WHY NOT ?" LS, I hope and pray that someday she will read this. Maybe someday she can let you know she understood why you had to go. |

This is a beautiful, hauntingly sad poem - well written, without blame, just with such touching, heartfelt love. Life can be so hard, and you have written a marvelous poem of love for your daughter. Thank you for sharing. The spiritual wind that holds survivors aloft, plants the seeds from which bloom new hope ... R.J.G. |

SpitFire I know so many girls end up prematurely pregnant, on drugs or with bad people because they yearn for a Fathers love they never had. I wish Mothers would think of thier kids before they remove kids from loving fathers and Fathers who need to love would do so. I will give my daughter all I can. inot2B Thank you for enjoying my poem, but her mother left with her. I would NEVER leave my little girl. EVER !! Rosemary J. Gwaltney Thank you for your kind word and for stopping by for a read. [This message has been edited by The Lonely Stranger (edited 11-01-2000).] |
