Last night I saw a jack-o-lantern Discarded in a pile of leaves Hollowed out, it's usefulness forgotten The smiles it brought to children's faces Now only a vague memory The happy - sad expression frozen in place Until with neglect It will dry up and be no more. I felt a kinship with that jack-o-lantern Used and discarded and all alone Keeping a smile frozen on my face Hoping no one will guess At the emptiness inside Hollowed out like that jack-o-lantern By a knife made of hurts and broken promises All the while wishing Someone will take the time To light a flame in me To give me a chance to glow With my own special beauty Before with neglect I will just dry up and be no more. |

*APPLAUDS LOUDLY* Wow, great poem and what a great analogy between the pumpkin and yourself. I love the visuals I got when reading this one. It's amazing how we all wear those carved on smiles from time to time in our lives and no one seems to notice any difference. You've outdone yourself with this one. Great work!! |

SEA - Thanks for lighting my flame! Hoot - Thanks for the support and applause. If this is really worth that applause it is because of the lessons I've learned from my sister. |
