What makes a poet? Is it the poem? Can you tell me? Must we follow a rhyme, A rhythm of syllables in time? Roses are red, violets are blue, Keeping it simple, does that matter to you? Or can we just run off our words, On and on, just like this, Just keep going, on and on, Or is an abstract thought, Glass, streaking hues, sunshine bent, Or should it be clear and concise, As a crisply ringing bell on a Sunday morning. Or slightly misleading, alluding, Like sand through your fingers? Must it be seven lines, fourteen lines, Or just one word. Passion. Can you tell me? [This message has been edited by Ron K. i was hoping the response would be that...not that it matters what you write...but that you write them. |

it shouldn't matter, but it does for the one with a handicap. Your rhyme should be but is not til the immature grows up and the dark see's light. Wish it were the wayit shouldbe. Encouraging & thats the promotion, maybe, just maybe. Marcy |

If it is from the heart with no malice and pure of feelings and can touch another..even if only one then I would say it is poetry and you are definitely a "POET". I have been enjoying your works much and am glad to see you have joined us. I may not get to everyone of them but rest assured I do read most. |

Very nice piece, Ron...I enjoyed this very much....what makes a poet to me, is exactly what everyone else said and it doesn't matter if you rhyme or not because it's still a formation of words and thoughts...I rhyme because I can't see myself not rhyming because, I love to rhyme...I just think rhyming makes a poem even more enjoyable...that's just my opinion though..but all in all Ron we all are poets...me, you, and poets everywhere just happened to release and feelings on a piece of paper....the rest of the world release that same energy in whatever career they have...and Ron, you are a poet so, I don't want you to feel very insecure at Passions because, there's enough room for all poets to shine so keep writing please. Enjoyed Ron..i think one has to be a very sensitive person..i cant see a hard cold blooded person writing poetry..someone who is kind and gentle..and sees the beauty in almost everything.. a poet is someone who can touch one from afar.. ~Victoria~ A poem is never finished, only abandoned. - Paul Valery (1871-1945) |

Ron, I agree a poet is one who can show his or her heart. Every poet has their own style of writing that's why every poet is unique. |

Ron, You said it best passion! It does not matter what drives it...love, compassion, sympathy, hate, anger, ect. Rhyme matters not. Form matters not. A poet is one who can put his/her passion on paper. You sir are a great poet!!! Love is the law, love under will. |

Wow, you guys/gals are great. i was trying to put out a message, when we read someone else's work, not to judge it against another's. we are all unique, our own thoughts, feelings, believes and styles. i wanted everyone to know whether you just right a simple rhyme or an elaborate verse, that its all beautiful, all from the heart. i wanted everyone to think for a moment. And you did. i didn't expect such praise. I'm honored to be among you. you all have touched me. Thank you |

hmm...a poet is born in the soul my friend it doesnt matter how you write your poet, as long as you write him..dont stifle him..or you murder your soul-child... hugs, dg "after a while, you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul..." -V A Shoffstall |
