Sinking Fast
Kelly S. McDonald

You’re slipping away, so lost, and it scares me
Drowning in the vast sea of unfelt life

Drifting further away and deeper down
I try to reach out to you but you don’t reach back

You let yourself sink further and further
Until you can’t breath or even call out my name

Consumed by the empty depths of your heart and soul
Once filled with love, now a cold and lonely place

I cry for you, but you can no longer hear me
My tears dry up before you realize they’re tears for you

I see you slipping away, feeling helpless I slowly give up
No longer able to reach you or knowing how to help you back

Sadness fills my heart, and I slowly start to drift…
I see what seems to be just your shell slowly float away

I search inside myself for any little ounce of strength
I stretch so far it hurts, reaching again, pulling any little thread

Praying the one I pull doesn't unravel you
I realize that I mustn’t ever give up, not ever…

You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving
There is no danger of developing eye-strain from looking on the bright side of things

I felt like I could well relate.   Very powerful, Kelly.

Excellent Kelly. . . we must never give up. . .

Well done. . . and it's nice to be reading you again. . .

Nice poem, very heartfelt. It's really hard when you care quite deeply for someone but they don't have the "eyes" to see that.

KellSue~
Friendships and love are worth stretching for.

Wonderful lines !

Thank you everyone for your kind comments!  I wrote this poem for a friend...a friend who seems to be slipping away and no matter what I do, I can't reach them.  Thank you again!
