It's easy to be nonchalant
If you're not really thinking about it;
It's easy to forget
If you're not trying to remember;
You can't get hurt
If you never give of yourself.
It's exactly this common sense
That I've been lacking.
Instead,
I've been wearing
These chains of dread
Around my neck.
I've thought a lot about it,
And I've come to the conclusion
That all I need to do
Is withhold my heart.
In these duels;
I will keep myself
Locked away
Behind a wall of steel.
It's simple;
And, I'll accomplish it
Right after I find a way
To build the barricade.

Snowpants,
When you finish building that barricade, please ensure you leave an opening, even a slight one. There has to be still room for the right heart that has not come by, yet.

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

Snowpants, don't build the barricade.  As much as it hurts (believe me, I know), you can't lock yourself away from the chance of finding love.  Fight the urge to build that fortress.  If we don't have dreams of love to keep us going, what do we have?

Take me as I am or watch me as I go

If you wear your heart on a string for all to see...be proud of it. so few have the passion or the compassion these days. just look around you. you'll see what i mean in my poem...pray all night to save the world. people hide from the truth. you have a wonderful thing...a heart full of love...leave it open...the right one will find it.   Ron

Daniel:  thank you for your encouraging words, my friend!  I'm glad you came by!

Tara:  I know, you are absolutely right.  Sometimes we just don't think it'll ever happen.  Thanks for stopping by!

Ron:  thank you, my friend, for your kind words, as well.  I appreciate your stopping by, too!  There are too few of us who still keep our hearts open, aren't there?

SnowPants~

No barricade
around your heart
For the problem
with that you see
is that it only locks you in
and love needs room
to breathe

Marcy!  You sneaked in on me, there!  I wrote this as a wake-up call to myself, actually, but I'm glad it spoke to you, too!  Thank you for reading and letting me know you liked it!!

SP....don't build a barricade, think that that would be a bad idea hon.....cause doing that you will loss a piece of your charm.....believe me, I have do the same for years...it cost a lot of pain to tear it down again...its ok, to protect yourself, but don't lock your heart away.....you have so many love to give.

you have penned this with your heart.

(((warm hugs)))....take care ....Charisma

SP, I sure know how tempting this can be, but I must agree; although I don't think you'll be able to do it anyway!!!

Having not too long ago come out of the cave (much too dark in there and dank and damp too, bad for arthritis  laughs ) I know how easy it is to want to put walls around...keep on sharing your heart; in time you'll find the right soul to share it with!!!

This is great, and I love the ending..I too, have tried, but cannot build the barricade. Though it would protect me from this pain.
Take care.

Sandra:  I guess it's for our own good that we aren't able to construct that wall.  You take care, too, my friend.  Thanks for reading!

Deb:  yes, this I know.  Thank you for your words of advice.  Thanks for stopping by!
