Together, we were like a tapestry, woven tightly in a colorful design, spun from different dreams, different lives, taken from all, formed into one. A tapestry that is pleasing to the eye, the soul, the heart. Until trembling fingers, unsure of touch, searching blindly for loose threads, pulled and tugged, intent on finding faults, extracted the brilliancy, thread by thread. Now the tapestry, which was our lives, hangs in the solitude of a darkened room, drab and gray. It has been rendered lifeless, naked of it’s once splendid colors, where no eyes can seek it, no soul can be touched by it, no heart can rejoice from it. In a place so desolate, it cannot be distinguished from the shadows that envelope it. It has become dark, uninviting, awaiting its time. A time that can be cruel, as so often, time is. And as time has its way, it will unravel, thread by thread, until the tapestry that was once our lives, shreds and falls onto the dust laden floor. A memory of the past, to be no more. |
