We were on a family outing The boys, their daddy, and me And along with some friends We took the local trolley For an evening under the stars The boys and I were seated The guys all standing at the back Laughing and being silly Teasing the boys and playing Just relaxing after their day There was a man and a woman Seated right in front of us The man said with a smirk If thats whats defending our country Heaven help those of us here Now my son was only five at the time But he knew just what had been said He stood up in his seat And turned to the man And this is what he said Thats my DAD you are talking about mister And he just came back from the Gulf You are sitting here safe and happy Cause he risks it all for you Well that man turned ten shades of red And the woman just lowered her head And the guy in the next seat Reached across to my son And said let me please shake your hand. Now my boy was just saying his heart But the story went right through that car And one by one people came to him and smiled Told his dad he's a great little boy But the best part was still to happen The man who had made the remarks Turned to my son and with tears in his eyes Told him this...son Im sorry for what I said Sometimes people speak without thinking And that is what I did You are right I sit here safely While others defend that right Who am I to judge anothers worth When I dont even know the man So think before you say something You never know who may be there to hear It shouldnt take a childs bright passion To make the truth that hard to see |

Thanks for the heart felt read. You never know what makes people act the way they do, unless you consider their mood as well as your own. I too, am guilty of jumping to conclusions before analyzing the circumstances. Melton |

This is a wonderful message and you've told it so well Paula..good on ya I think we are all guilty of it at some time in our lives but as long as we learn from it like this man, is the main thing and try not to judge others when we don't know them or their situation...well done Paula!!! Tracie~ Love is the life of the soul... It is the harmony of the universe |

Paula, One of the great tragedies of society throughout history is that people who make mistakes never acknowledge they have. Good on the young boy to raise his voice, and good on the man to acknowledge that he had done wrong. Well written. Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love (Daniel J D) |

Sometimes it takes the wisdom and purity of a child to see what is there....and then show it to us. Beautiful heart felt work Paula....I very much enjoyed this~ |

Paula, I think many of us have been guilty of judging others. I know I have and later, like the man in your poem, have regretted it. Thanks for the reminder to think before we speak. Dee |

if everyone act these way, we should have a better world, it is so true, and so sad that people mostly not realize that they can hurt someone with their judgement. thank you for sharing this one, it is a heartfellt poem.....and add a thread to my library |

Oh Paula this is so wonderful. My heart was filled with pride for your son and hurt that he had to hear that. But I believe he was given words of wisdom to speak back and what an awesome thing that is. Out of the mouth of babes . . .Hug that sweetie for me would ya. And thank you to the hubby, my ex served as a marine in the gulf war also. Hugs, Juls |
