I really love this life of mine Or at least I do most the time Whenever I'm not working to pay my bills I'm living high on my homemade hill I maxed out seven credit cards Those minimum payments make it hard With interest rates through the roof The second mortgage made fire-proof I've a pretty wife who lives in town Who cusses me when I come 'round Paying support for kids I can't see And alimony per court decree I love this little car of mine Well, it's mine most of the time And only thirty-two payments remain Until it's put in my wife's name But I really love this life of mine When not working double overtime And I'll only ever really be poor When they find me dead upon the floor Alicat If I were any more laid back, I'd be in a coma. |

Alicat, I'm in your debt for posting this poem. Maybe you could bottle the laughter and make a fortune, selling it as good medicine. Be well Kethry Growth demands a temporary surrender of security. Gail Sheehy |

This speaks to an American tragedy. The disposal of American fathers. The fallout will soon be even more obvious than it alrewady is, crime, dropouts, drugs, teenage pregnancy, juvenile suicide.....I could go on. My heart goes out to you. |

Wonderful flow Alicat, and a very thought-provoking read. I can see both the humour and the tragedy in this piece ... well done! ![]() Best wishes, /Kit |

Alicat, Poverty on earth means powerlessness. The further people throw you, the better it is to smile at them. Good on you for facing your problems with such good humour. Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love (Daniel J D) |

Thank you all for reading and enjoying. For those that know how I write, very rarely are my works autobiographical, though they are written largely in first person. I just know I'm gonna git smacked for this, but I have no wife, no credit cards, no house, no mortgage, no car and no kids. I do have two jobs though (does that count as autobiographical?). ![]() Ya'll have a good one. Pax Poeticus |

The word (?) 'Pauperty' drew me in - immediately saw the combination and loved the coining. But the poem is why I'm replying. because it speaks to the judges and divorce lawyers, our love of cars - and the credit card proliferation and all that is now part of our culture for good or for ill. Well done, well said Sir Alicat! [This message has been edited by Wilfred Yeats (edited 10-25-2000).] |
