“What’s ‘at ye say? Ye’d buy a dram? An’ pray, why would tha’ be? Ye’d ‘ear a tale or two, ye would? O’ lands beyond the sea. Aye, there’s a few, wha’ I could tell- An’ some I won’t, ye ken? Aye, yarn I will, If ye will buy- I’ll tell o’ fightin’ men. Black Jack Davy…wha’ a lad! An’ quick wi’ quip, or steel. I’ve sided ‘im a score o’ times, An’ took wi’ ‘im my meals. ‘Twas sad the day, I ‘eard ‘e’d died- I often toast ‘is name. I feign wou’ ‘ave fell at ‘is side- Aye, e’d a done the same. An’ Brennan? Aye, I knowed ‘im, too- Ah, Willie, bless ‘is ‘eart- Betrayed to coward lobster backs, ‘Is love, she were a tart. An’ Wallace? I knew William well- An’ wi’ ‘im also bled- An’ cursed to ‘ear the Longshank’s cur, ‘Ad taken William’s ‘ead. Ah, ‘eark! I ‘ear the curfew bell- ‘Tis time to end me speil- An’ check me primin’, ease me blade… An’ will ye wish me weel? There comes wi’ dusk a coach an’ four- A swell wha’s travelin’ late. An’ wi’ a canny Scottish lad- I fear ‘e ‘as a date… I’ll lift ‘is poke, and kiss ‘is dame- An’ watch ‘is face grow pale… To know ‘ow close ‘e came to death, So goes the Traveler’s Tale. |

Does anyone here speak Gaelic? I need a translator! I enjoyed this one Gun slinger. It's not like any thing else of yours I've read. (That DOESN'T mean I don't like the other stuff.) Dee [This message has been edited by Dee (edited 10-18-2000).] |
