A Flower Wasn’t Meant to Speak A flower wasn’t meant to speak But in so many ways A Rose leaves silent missives In the grace of its bouquet In undertones of charm it says “I noticed you today Perhaps you’d like to meet again One very special day” A Rose expresses “I love you, I’ll stay here by your side” Sometimes a Rose apologizes “Sorry that I lied” A Rose brings cheer, “Please get well soon I wait for your return” Or ”Hurry home, the fire’s lit The love and passions burn” A single Rose, if it could speak Would say poetically The things hard to confess ourselves And things we fail to see You handed me a Rose today It whispers in my ear So many things that I was simply Unprepared to hear It says your leaving me today You found somebody new It says “We had some good times” And “I’ll always think of you” It murmurs tones soft regret “I loved you long and well But I have changed in ways that I cannot begin to tell” It lies upon the table top About to wither dry It tells me that the time has come For us to say good-bye I never knew a flower could speak The words you fail to find This Rose drains streams of sorrow Into my heart and mind How can a flower make me weep A Rose was never meant to speak Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 10-16-2000).] |

Excellent piece Liz! Beautiful, rhythmic flow and so full of true and meaningful sentiments. A rose, does indeed speak all these things, and you've painted this wonderfully. Lovely! ![]() Best wishes, /Kit |

This is one of your best. I like it. I agree with you. It is hard for some of us to use just the right sentiment. A rose does indeed speak in so many ways. Thanks, Melton [This message has been edited by Melton L. Culberth (edited 10-16-2000).] |

Liz A rose can speak in many languages as well. You have planted many thoughts in all of our heads on what a rose means to us. Nicely done. Ariana |

I agree, Roses aren't meant to speak, especially sad and hurtful words. Nicely expressed. |

Oh Elizabeth, this is artfully, beautifully, melancholy and sweetly sad... but as always, it shines with your inimitable talents... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?...KRJ |

such a great poetic storyteller you are - you always dazzle me - and sometimes - like now bring a tear - roses don't speak - but you do - most eloquently |
