You can say you won’t miss me,
When I walk out the door.
Say you know you won’t think,
About me anymore.
But I know the truth,
There is no disguise
For the look of longing
That lies in your eyes.
When I’m gone,
Your heart is going to break.

You can say you don’t need me.
Swear you never did.
You can lock up the truth.
Slam down the lid
On all that we once felt,
Go ahead and just try.
But I know the facts,
There is no disguise
For the look of desolation
That lies in your eyes.
When I’m gone
Your heart is going to break.

You can dredge up each moment
Of anger and shame.
Hold them up for inspection,
Pick who is to blame.
And it won’t matter
At all.
For after all the tears dry
I’ll stand strong
And be comforted
By the lack of disguise
That clearly depicts
The pain in your eyes.
Because I’m gone
And your heart
It did break.
