the poetic journalist photographer traveled to a remote part of Alaska to photograph a huge glacier while he was in the village nearby an ancient old native indian approached him and asked if he could pay him in some way to pray to his white god to ask if white god would take such and such glacier away. When he asked to understand such request the old man explained when he was growing up there there was no glacier but it was a river filled with wonderful fish instead as a young man he was able to feed his large ever extended family very easily and they always had an abundance of meat year round to give. But then Instead as the years went by a glacier god had grown angry with him he knew not why and sent a glacier down poor natives river slowly chasing the fish away and it grew harder and harder to feed his family the glacier kept coming and coming no matter what prayers he prayed to the gods... he had finally sacrificed two of his best slaves - a strong young man and his wife, hoping to please the glacier god so that it would take the glacier away but it didn’t the glacier just kept coming. Now in hungry desperation he was asking the white man to pray to his great white god in case white god could make the glacier go away and give him back their river and the fish lest they starve and die returning a few years later and inquiring of the man and his family no one seemed to know of them asking again has anyone seen them lately? they all began to move away from prophetic poet still wondering [This message has been edited by lucky (edited 10-13-2000).] |

Lucky--this is a wonderful story, although a bit confusing at the end...because you are certainly not a pathetic poet, so who...and where ...is the question I am left with. |

OK... I'll change it. Writing isn't just something I do... it's something I am... To write of feelings that touch all hearts in some manner is my greatest delight... [Marg |

Alright Martie, The story is a true story. Rosemary had read it some where and had told me about it later. I saw a write coming... but you know..? I should have maybe taken longer; you see... it had no beginning and obviously no end but the rest as I said, is true. I could make it a challenge I suppose it's worth a try. |
