I AM"

I am a wanna be poet, I am only content when I write,
I wonder why my best inspiration only comes in the middle of the night.
I hear the voices in my mind, old ghosts calling from the past,
I see promise in the light of day and pray it will last.
I want to know true contentment ... I think its finally in sight ...
I am a wanna be poet, I am only content when I write.

I pretend the losses don't get to me, I refuse to pay the cost
I feel like if I don't write ... a part of me will again become lost.
I touch old black and white photos, trying to hold on the memories made
I worry if I don't hold them near, the moments shared might begin to fade.
I cry only in the night's shadows, my tears never to see light ...
I am I am a wanna be poet, I am only content when I write,

I understand that I must first learn to believe and trust in me,
I say thanks to God everyday for this gift and love of poetry.
I dream that my words will help heal the broken heart of a friend,
I try to always be fair and my understanding lend.
I hope to always be inspired even if it is only late at night ...
I am a wanna be poet, I am only content when I write,

Janet Marie

thanks for the inspiration Alicat and X Angel

** this came out a tad melancholy...
but it wrote itself ...
so it must of been meant to be (smile)
I dont question inspiration

Janet, there is no wannabe to be...you are a poet.

Most poetry writes itself, we just hold the pen.  And, well, this challenge is supposed to be about self, hence the title.

And you answered it most wonderfully.

JM, Alicat says this is a great way to
know each other. And as I read each one
and understand.
SORRY about your broken pen, LOL for
you are no wanna be poet. You are a poet,
my dear.
My pen writes things and when I write,
I also find contentment.

Thanks for sharing.  This is lovely, as
usual.

Well, I must contend that you are not a "wannabe poet".  You are a poet(ess) and a good one at that.  Your words touch the souls of many... and have helped the broken heart of at least one friend I know

Challenge well met, Janet.

You are no 'wanna be', m'friend! This was not an easy challenge, and you carried it out well, especially with the rhyme. Enjoyed much. Thank you.

I have to concur with everyone else here Janet, you are definitely NOT a wanna-be!!

Your words and replies to my own poems have helped me greatly. . .and you have poured out your heart and soul to all us here.  We are indeed the ones that are blessed and made better by your presence.

This was a great poem Janet, it shows us your heart, which for myself, is something that I see every day. . .

Wonderful my friend. . .

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

*wanna be poet* is a knickname a special friend gave me...it has come to stand for my desire to continually grow as a writer.
Something that I am continually inspired to do sharing this room with the high calibur of poets here.
This place is so very special because of all of you.

Janet Marie,
I don't see a wanna be poet here, but a true poetess who writes from the heart.  I love it.  I am a friend of TerryW's and he is the one who told me about passions.  He also told me about a few poets I needed to read, and I must admit, he was right!  You are great!

Well Janet I feel like now I have gotten to know you a little bit better...I was happy to read that true contentment is almost in your sight and hopfully your reach.
So you are inspired only late at night...I have been inspired a few times late at night..usually just one or two lines come into my mind..then I get up in the middle of the night and write them down...then I am happy...I can usually build from that one line at a more presentable hour.    James

Glad you "wanna be a poet" JM because you ARE....and a wonderful one.
I know exactly what you mean about inspiration coming at night. Sometimes strikes at the strangest times and places.

Janet, you are so modest..if you are a wannabe poet, then what does that leave this
raw greenhorn with?

enjoyed this muchly, esp the lines about holding photos close to you in the hope that fragile memories will remain just as crystal clear....identify with the line about having the words to heal a broken heart...well, thats why i am attempting to write poetry...so that someone may gain an itsy-bitsy solace from my words

WELL DONE!!!
