What careful hand What words in gentle whisper spoken Might see my mask and mirror broken -- What trick of tongues shall thus betoken The end of dynasties? What touch, that flows from deepest reaches Of hope, shall prove the one that teaches To love, to need, while soul beseeches: “Cede here the victory?” What gaze shall see the ramparts falling? A clarion to closeness calling, That charms the guard from e’er forestalling The siege before its start? What trust, from ash in anguish buried Shall rise, and to this doubt be married? What careful hand shall see it carried To wake the dreaming heart? Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest |

Hi y'all .... Claire -- thanks so much, I thought the title put the point across well, an in truth, 'twas that phrase upon which the poem itself was built ... Jeffrey -- guess you thought the poem bore repeating, huh? *g* Oh, and thanks for a most high compliment -- Will is my MAN! Mike -- what an absolute pleasure to see a reply from you ... I nearly had the grace to blush ... Rex -- you are simply too much for my poor ego to bear! Big hugs of thanks ... --Kess Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest |

Kess, I like this side of you. (the mushy side...LOL) Don't get to see it very often. This was very tender... left me yearning. "What careful hand shall see it carried To wake the dreaming heart?" Dare I say the hand of true love? Michael |

"No (man) is an island." Is this not the case? Then how to prove it to one whom believes it to be so, when to them, their perception of reality is the valid one? Good question my friend, good question. |

this is so lovley to read....the rhyme flows like sweet cream butter *S* and the emotions are so fragile and delicate. this one gives me serious poet envy.*smile* take care, jm Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders And it makes me want to touch you there. And the light in your eyes makes me feel Like there's something much better out there Something kind... And I know someday I might be looking around Trying to find some purpose Well purpose it can't be that hard to find As long as I've got the wind... The wind and your love to carry me. vertical horizon |

Hello again ... Michael: You may dare whatever you like, m'dear. The question is, will I agree with you...? Thank you for the reply -- have to get this mush out now and then or it makes me sick to my stomach ... LOL Chris: What an interesting reply -- I have no idea whatsoever what it had to do with the poem, but hey ... Marge: Thank you, I tried out a new (odd) syllable count, and was not sure how it would work -- glad you enjoyed ... JanetMarie: Poet envy is the highest form of praise ... I thank you for having the grace to admit it (cause I never would! LOL) Dark Angel: ... and thank you for reading, my dear -- nice to see you again ... --Kess |

Skyfyre: This Poem is absolutely Beautiful! I enjoyed the rhyme scheme. Your failures in life come from not realizing your nearness to success when you give up. -Yoruba Proverb Poetry & Friendship, PrincessPoet |
