The Last Collapse I'll put myself to rest tonight. And with the closing of my eyes, so closes a door. God help whomever turns the key and hopes to find a familiar face. I'm the stranger you pass in the street. I'm the muffled voice across the crowd. Not a soul has listened. My reflection anonymous. It is said in death we can peer upon ourselves in our final moments, watching, waiting for the last collapse. The moment we cease. Yet here I stand and I am able to witness this moment. All the while, believing I am alive. God help whomever reaches out expecting my hand. I need not this pity. All that strength has brought me is weakness. I falter even as I lie in God's arms and he whispers how much he needs me. How he won't let me go. He is the only reason my eyes will open to another day. My life is not my own. |
