Seeking around, no job to be found, I happened upon that place
No job I found, though I sought around, but met a kindred face
Her skin was worn, her clothes were torn, and I caught her eye
My jeans were torn, my coat was worn, as I stettled down with a sigh
Beneath the stairs, blind to stares, I asked her of her coat
And blind to stares, under the stairs, she told me, rote by rote
What she had lost was beyond all cost, as we sat beneath the stairs
And out slipped a tear, the first in a year, oblivious to the stares
I made a vow that I'd help somehow, and left with purpose anew
And though I found work, despite back's quirk, she died with the dew
At the grave site, the sun shining bright, I was the only bloke
Noone was there, none seemed to care of the lady in the patchwork coat

Very nicely done, persnikitty... Each and every homeless person has a unique story to tell... Each and every one of us "more lucky ones" should listen to them...

Thank you for your wonderful reply poem. I do see that my "patchwork lady" could end up like this....I'm glad the poem inspired you....perhaps we can collaborate again soon!

Everybody, thank you for your kind words.  And a special thanks to Poet deVine, who's writings have inspired me on several occasions.

And having read the replies to 'The Patchwork Coat', I can extremely relate...as I may be joining those nameless ranks here within the next month if things don't turn around for me...but, if they don't, I know that it will be a wonderous adventure, if nothing else.

And PdV, yeah, I agree...we need to do another collaboration, as we have a good rapport with bouncing ideas off each other.
