          Something

Something inside of me vanished, today;
With sorrow, I watched it depart.
My eyes brimmed with teardrops; a lump filled my throat,
And darkness crept into my heart.

Something I needed has now disappeared;
And, with it, my will to go on.
It seems to have flown to a far-distant star:
The one that I once wished upon.

Something that guided my steps now is gone;
And, I'm empty, like never before.
Despair and dark anguish encompass my soul;
For, my power to dream is, no more.

Oh Troy, I hope this is not a new poem.
It is so sad -- and well written, of course.

Starlight, starbright, give our Troy
back his dreams tonight!

hugs to you my friend,

Troy* This is excellent and brings the reader into the darkness with you.  You captured the feelings of lost hope acutely. **AW hugs** here's to better days ahead whether this was written for pain today or pain gone by.

Teresa - no, this isn't a new poem...but it fits my mood, today.  I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed by life at the moment - I'm sure tomorrow will be better.

Marie - we all get the blues sometimes, don't we?  I'll be all right...just havin' a rough day.

Thanks for your kind comments!

Butterflies - ya snuck in there on me, while I was responding to Teresa and Marie!  Thanks for the hug, and I'm sure things will get better.

You know, this piece has impeccable meter and conveys the sadness you were feeling beyond any question. Lovely writing, Troy.

Claire - thank you for your kind words, my friend!  It's too bad that sometimes our best poems arise out of sorrow...

This poem really touched me. You see, I often dreamed about a man that I loved, and when I finally got tired of living in a dream, I asked him out. He refused, and now I see him for what he really is. I thought I had lost the power to dream and have hope, but I found that it was there the entire time, it was just that I couldn't see it because I was mired in so much sorrow. You still have the power to dream, my friend. You just don't see it right now, but you will again. I promise.

Lone Wolf - thank you, my friend!  I'm sure that I will be "on the mend," soon.

LoveBug - I'm happy (but also sad) that you can relate.  It's always nice to be reassured that others have faced the same trials, but it's also a shame to see others suffering.  I'm sure that this state of mind/heart won't last - I just need to "recharge my emotional batteries."

Thanks again for all of the kind comments!
