Whilst the Candle Burns Oh come, my love, this mystic night Upon enchanted wind That surges swift through salten air Above unquiet sea, No hand shall stay thy fairie-flight -- Nor word this spell rescind That marks thy locus starry there -- That carries you to me. Oh come, for whilst the candle burns, The charm is surely spun; In silken ties two hearts shall bind As single entity -- No prize but that for which it yearns Might be so gladly won, Such welcome shall the vessel find That carries you to me! Oh come, for time is doubly fleet When need would wish it slow -- So short the blessed hour seems That frames our destiny -- A kiss in parting bittersweet By candle’s dying glow, Laments the transience of dreams That carry you to me. Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest |

Ah, the fragrence of impending doom upon dreams not yet realized. Waves of rich melancholy flowing in this one, Kess. "So short the blessed hour seems That frames our destiny --" Penned perfectly. Michael |

"transience of dreams" Indeed my friend, (not lecturing, just speaking out loud...LOL) Dreams, aren't they the most interesting of subjects? Is it perhaps that very transience which draws us to them? Pictures and hopes caught in fleeting moments of un-awareness, with wisp of wishes trailing after throughout the days. Hmm, I've oft wished to remember my dreams as others do... yet theirs are just as transient, mine just move quicker! |
