The Gift of a Planet

One day of the year we stop to think,
about the quality of all LIFE,
the air we breath, the water we drink.

God gave us this planet to share,
surrounded by flora and fauna,
trusting the "thinking" ones to care.

But our drive to continually improve
upon what was already perfect,
of this, HE would not approve.

Conspicuous consumption creates trash,
ant-like in our frenzy to build,
lost in Corporations' thirst for cash.

With technology available to us now,
why do we still rely on fossil fuels?
Because we let Lobbyists tell us how.

Burning rainforests to make room for cattle,
leaves barren soil and starving people,
a vicious never ending battle.

The leaders of the world are weak,
WE propagate power in our numbers,
and WE are the ones who must speak.

But somehow we've let money rule
materialism, a false god,
greed is the evil and we are the fools.

is a great message -- it is we the people
who can stop this ravaging the land -

You speak a poetic truth here my friend!! If we the people of this beautiful Earth aren't the ones to stop this mass distruction, then who will? NO ONE. Beautifully done.
