Someday…

Life can seem sentient.
As though it creates questions for you
And sits,
Drumming its omnipotent fingers
Waiting for your answer.

Life asked me a question today.
With one simple word.
"Someday…", it whispered.
When is someday?

It made me think of every time
That word had passed my lips
Someday…
How many I regret
How few I've seen

I've promised them to people who now are gone
To people who have long forgotten me
But never have I forgotten them
I've even promised myself

But when is someday?

Life never asks you a question
And leaves you unprepared
Every answer is hidden in a part of your life
I have found someone who has given me meaning
Given me an answer… a realization

That someday can't wait
Won't wait, never waits.
Someday would be an injustice to her
It must be today

For that is when love lives
Tears flow, flowers bloom, sunrises glow
Today is the only time we're given
Someday, she may be gone
May forget, or forget me

Today I have her in my arms
And I pray today will last forever

Life, I think, just looked at me and smiled.

I was going to say I enjoyed reading this, but that would be a huge understatement.
I absolutely LOVED this.

I can't wait to read more of your work.

Welcome to Passions for sure

 All my love,
Jeffrey

Thanks, everyone, for the responses.
Two nods from Seniors and one from an Emeritus... I'm very flattered.
BTW, thanks for the email Poet!
To be honest, I haven't written in a few years.  Kind of lost touch, I guess.  The real reasons for my entry are:
1) Leanne, my friend, who has given me a new outlook on life and is the person for whom this poem was penned
and 2) The poetry that I have read here in the past few days; incredible.  It has awoken something inside me.
So thank you again, as I was not sure how, or if, this would be accepted.
You make a person feel very welcome here.  I am looking forward to reading and, if warranted, posting more poetry in Passions.

Trew

Thank you, one and all!
I've been to a few different sites such as this in my wanderings, but none had the feel that this one has.  You seem to be a fine group, and I am honoured by the responses.
I look forward to getting to know you all in Open #8.

Trew-You have a very elegant way with words.  It is refreshing to read such a poem of tenderness.
