Reason and Passion

Reason and Passion one day met upon a rocky road
Each upon his back was bearing much too great a load
Reason wanted nothing more than conquering the mind
Passion’s quest was smothering the heart til it was blind

And so they went their separate ways, each thinking he was best
One kept walking toward the east, and one was heading west
Never did they stop to think a while and compromise
Each one believed that he was so much stronger and more wise

Then Passion fell into abyss, and suddenly awoke
The heart that he once bragged about was torn apart and broke
For Passion without Reason was a much too heavy load
So Passion was left in despair along the lonely road

Reason on the other hand was plodding right along
Until a lovebird flew o’rehead and sang a loving song
But Reason just ignored it and then finally fell apart
For it could no more bear the load without love in his heart

So Reason who was heading west, now took the eastward road
And Passion looked for Reason to help lighten up the load
Their paths then crossed one more time upon survival’s way
For one without the other could not last for one more day

Liz, this is SO excellent...and full of wisdom...I love this poem...
I'm firing up the printer...
very well written...and most enjoyed by this reader.
take care, jm

Well the sun sets gently on your shoulders
And it makes me want to touch you there.
And the light in your eyes makes me feel
Like there's something much better out there
Something kind...
And I know someday I might be looking around
Trying to find some purpose
Well purpose it can't be that hard to find
As long as I've got the wind...
The wind and your love to carry me.

There is much wisdom to be found in this verse

To love means never to be afraid of the windstorms of life: should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings. ~Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
