Poor Little Tansy Butterfly

My son and his girl came to visit me
and in the kitchen they did find
a lovely red Tansy Butterfly
and my son caught it in a jar

"Mom, what kind of bug is this?
It sure is pretty. I am going
to set it free, cuz in the house
it will surely die."

"That is a Tansy Butterfly
a beautiful creature that needs
to be outside. So, yes, how sweet
of you, do set it free!"

The butterfly with bright red wings
was soon to be set free by the
heart of my son who is nineteen
To fly to the azure sky

Outside I hear a mournful cry
"Mom, a mean old humming bird
ate my Tansy Butterfly just as
it spread its wings to fly

Why, oh why, did I set it free
only to see it die? Poor little
beautiful Tansy Butterfly."

Oh, my heart did beat to see his face
so full of angered surprise
And that question in his eyes
I was at loss for words for my reply
to the fate of the lovely butterfly.

Ahhh the paradox of nature, so beautiful yet so cruel.

Thank you Dark Angle, Eric, Jeffrey
and Insect  -- yeah, I had to write it
down as soon as my son left. It was so
amazing. I was thinking of all the insects
I have set free, and never once have I seen
them swooped up like that.  Insect, LOL
have you ever seen how fast a humming bird
is ---)  Once our cat caught one he had
such a look of surprise on his face. "I GOT
it, I actually Got it."  And the hummer
buzzed off - prob thinking "stupid cat"
