Where can I find childlike innocence
That I am supposed to bring to the Lord
If I throw my riches into the lake
What then could a wise man afford?

I’m a fisher of men casting my pole
And all my riches swim in the lake
Would I not hide the light I’ve found
So these riches would be mine to take

“Be quiet and don’t scare the fish” I hear
From men who have none in their basket
Will the rusty nails be dug from the deep
To seal the unsaved in their casket

Should I jump in and retrieve them all
Would they not just flap on the beach
Who struggles to breathe smothered so well
By good intentions to take them and teach

When I catch one should I not throw it back
So It will grow for when I catch it again
But there are so many fish in the sea
Who think water saves them from their sin

The riches I cast into the lake
Are not the same I’m trying to retrieve
And I wholly know faith not just by works
Is something I sacredly believe

Why do I cast my line in the lake
Because the Lord taught me how to fish
My basket is full my son’s is too
And that’s the wise man’s tearful wish

Walt~
This is a MARVELOUS piece of work.
You just keep getting better and better, my friend.
There is so much in this writing.

He said, 'I will make you fishers of men.'
It's easy to keep the faith - but we need to share it too !
I hope your poem reaches many with it's message.
Thanks for sharing this, my friend.

This is very good Walt. I've tried to 'catch' one for some time now, but he keeps swimming away!! (Sorry about that..) I do like your poem and it's message.
