This is one I wrote 15 years ago..... Along the Beach Alone As I walked along the beach alone the moon brightened the midnight sky, As you have brightened up my life, everyday of this year gone by. And as I walked I dreamed of you, I dreamed of you and I reminded of your beauty as I gazed into the sky. I dreamed about all the times when you were in my tight embrace, I could feel your warmth and heart beat and see your smiling face. I remembered how the look in you eyes said all that I needed to know, I was everything to you, you love me, please don't go. Then I opened my tear filled eyes to find the sky darkened with the night, as a cloud moved in front of the moon, blocking it's beautiful light. In the matter of an instant, it was gone without a trace and all I had to brighten my night, was the memory of your face. Then suddenly I realized, you could be taken as quickly too just as the cloud took the moon, and there's nothing that I could do. Then the rain came down and soaked me, the wind chilled me to the bone But all I could think of was you my love, as I walked along the beach alone. |

wow i love this melancholy poem of longing and the rhyme and flow rolled along... the imagery is perfect as well great read. thanks jm I think I could need - this in my life I think I'm just scared - that I know too much I can't relate and that's a problem I'm feeling ... If you're gone - maybe it's time to go home There's an awful lot of breathing room But I can hardly move If you're gone - baby you need to come home cuz there's a little bit of something me... In everything in you. ~MB20~ "What the caterpillar calls the end ... The world calls a butterfly" ~Lao Tze Tao~ ~Butterflies are meant to be free~ |

I loved this! It made me sad, yet something in it made me go back and read it again. I can just picture you walking on the beach with darkness all around. Excellent piece. "That man has shown himself great who has never grieved in evil days and never bewailed his destiny." --Seneca |

Thank you all for your kind comments! It is a wonderful feeling to have my poems read and enjoyed by others who enjoy and write poetry. Tennessee Angel, Just so you know, this poem is actually a true story. I wrote this one night after talking to my girlfriend of two years on the phone. I was living 500 miles away at the time due to my career. During the conversation I knew our relationship was over. She did'nt tell me that, but I just knew. As you can imagin, I was extremely upset as she was my first true love. I decided to take a walk and think for a while. I was in Key West, Fl. at the time so I set out walking around the island. It was around 2:00 AM. As I walked along the beach under the full moon, I thought about my relationship with her ending. As I continued walking the sky grew cloudy and it began to rain. The words to this poem just came to me without effort. Soaking wet I walked into the lobby of a hotel and wrote the poem down on a piece of papper that I borrowed from the night clerk. It was 3:59 AM in Oct. of 1986. I still have that piece of papper with the poem, time, and date written on it. I am not sure if you really give a hoot, but now you know ![]() Best wishes and Thanks again! Poetaster D |

PoetasterD -- Wow! I came back to read this piece again and found your wonderful background information. Thank you so much for sharing that. I always am fascinated by the origin of a poem. It makes me even more sad to know that it is true. I look forward to reading many more of your poems and hope that you do not have too many heartbreaking stories to tell. Once again, great job! PoetasterD~ I enjoyed the background and the poem. Ah ... nothing lovelier than the sunset and the moonrise at Mallory Square in Key West. This poem had to have special meaning to you for you to have held on to that memento for so long. Aren't you glad you did? ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
