My dear friends,

This poem is my 500th post here, but more importantly it is my first poem about my father...I revere and respect him to the fullest possible extent... but that doesn't seem to be enough to me, so I wish to give him a nice poem as a gift for Father's day (June 18th)...So please let me know if this is appropriate and what can be changed to make it appropriate and better....

I thank your support in advance... Here goes...

My Father, My Hero
----------------------
A passing thought, a vision, I saw an image deep in his eyes,
A source of love, tender affection, given without compromise.
I recall the many times that he had stood, by my side,
and prodded me on with great vigour and even greater pride.

His voice ever confident, firm and yet fair,
Always speaking with patience, tenderness and care.
The power, the might of his hands was so sure,
I knew, with his presence, there was nothing I wouldn't endure.

'Tis true, my teachers provided me educational insight,
Whilst mother, she dedicated her flaming love, her caring light,
Yet, he laid the foundation that let me stand upright,
He was the one who taught me what was right.

He's the grandest of men to have stepped on this earth,
Most commanding of generals, a most serene  personality.
Although he's neither royal by stature nor a high priest by birth,
He will remain forever, the emperor for my supreme loyalty.

A man of great dignity, honour and strength,
Merits are noble, and of admirable length.
Displaying greater valour in climbing life's unfair stairs,
Oft showing the grandeur of life lived, with steps ever so fair.

He's the one, who strengthened my tiny, unsure paces
The one, who gave me courage, to fly in free spaces
He's far greater than any man that I know, 'tis true
He's my dad, my friend, my mentor, my hero too.

A year from now, when sixty, he'll look not more than forty
A pool of wisdom, filled with life's measures aplenty,
I bow in deep respect and seek out his footprints,
Steps that I take will follow as ever his confident sprints.

Hey you, out there in the cold,
Getting lonely, getting old, can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisle,
With itchy feet and fading smile, can you feel me?
Hey you, don't help them to bury the light.
Don't give in without a fight.
Hey you, out there on your own,
Sitting naked by the phone, would you touch me?
Hey you, with your ear against the wall,
Waiting for someone to call out, would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I'm coming home....

Two very fortunate people...your father and you.

This is what I would change...but on the other hand...you can leave it as it is, for it is straight from your heart...

A passing thought, a vision, I saw an image deep in his eyes,
A source of love, tender affection, given without compromise.
I recall the many times that he had stood still, by my side,
and prodded me on with great vigour and even greater pride.

His voice ever confident, firm, and yet fair,
Always he spoke with patience, tenderness, and care.
The power, the might of his hands so sure,
I knew, in his presence, there was nothing I wouldn't endure.

'Tis true, my teachers provided me educational insight,
Whilst mother, she dedicated her flaming love, her caring light,
Yet, he laid the foundation that let me stand upright,
He was the one who taught what was right.

He's the grandest of men to have stepped on this earth,
Most commanding of generals, serene of personalities.

The one who gave me courage, to fly in free spaces
He's far greater than any man I know, 'tis true
He's a dad, a friend, a mentor ... a hero too.

A year from now, when sixty, he’ll look not more than forty
A pool of wisdom, filled with life's measures aplenty,
I bow in deep respect, and seek out his footprints,
Steps that I take will follow as ever his confidence sprints

Your father will love this piece, whatever you choose to do.  Happy Fathers Day to him!

Karilea,
Thanks for spending your most valuable time for presenting me with a delightful poetic insight and making me improve my poem...I have changed a few lines, which I felt should be after reading what you wrote a few times and re-reading my poem... some lines I just let them be..

Thanks a lot once again, really...

Many regards,
Sudhir

Sudhir~
This is truly a most wonderful and beautiful piece. You must have the upmost respect and admiration for your father to have penned such a piece as this and I admire you for it.
I can see the love, respect, admiration and loyalty in your words.
This is a masterpiece, a treasure and your dad will be blown away by it I'm sure.
Luv Tracie~

Your respect and admiration for your father simply shines throughout this wonderful verse Sudhir ... it will be something your father will treasure always. What an incredible relationship you share, you are truly blessed.  I find it is so important to share these feelings "now", and let people know how much we appreciate them "today". Excellent tribute to your father Sudhir!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Sudhir, you are so lucky to have a father
to respect and to give such love.  This
piece is perfect -- Your father might
have to hide his tears --)

And, your father is lucky to have a son
who realizes his dad is one of his greatest
treasures.    This is lovely.

Bringing this poem back to the top for two reasons:
** Today is father's day, and
** My dad liked this one, (He did Karilea, he did!) and thanks for all of you for your kind words, and your best wishes...

Once again regards and thanks to all...

Sudhir
