Limerick for my Muse I had a quick thought for the day, See I really just wanted to play, So I called up my work, And I spoke to the clerk, And I said I'd be off sick today! What joy did I have before me, For I had the whole day don't you see? As I hung up the phone, Shouted loud ... "I'm alone!" What a feeling ... I'm thrilled ... I am free! A cup of fresh coffee I brewed, Put my feet up, and read me some news, I lingered a while, Gave a soft little smile, Then I readied my pen for my muse. She whispered that she was amused, Wanted change, but it left me confused, "A limerick" she said, As I just shook my head, For I worried this style I'd abuse! "I am used to our sorry old ways", "Please don't make me", I begged in a daze, But 'lo and behold, She took hold and was bold, And now look what I see through this haze. "Enough!" I cry out to the air, "Aren't they short and more coloured with flair?" (OK, make it end, With a stroke of my pen), Put to rest this sojourn, in mid-air ... /Kit McCallum |
