He was a cute and happy kid His mother's pride and joy. He loved to run around and play Just like a normal boy And, every time dark skies appeared His mother would proclaim "Be sure to wear a raincoat If you're going in the rain." He grew into a handsome lad Thanks largely to his mom. The time had come to take his sweetheart To the Senior Prom. Since there was not a cloud in sight It was hard to explain Why mom said "Wear a raincoat If you're going in the rain". So there he sits. Three years have passed. He's feeling pretty numb From working on the graveyard shift And playing Mr. Mom. At times before he falls asleep He hears his mom's refrain "Be sure to wear a raincoat If you're going in the rain." |

I guess Mom forgot to tell him that there was more than one kind of raincoat. Poor fella...a rough lesson learned. Great poem, as always, Balladeer! Denise |

Kids these days never pay heed to their parents. These are good words from a wise and learned man. One day you will get promoted to the day shift, one day... One day my mother told me sigi keep that cigar wrapped, never unwrap that cigar, you'll be sorry if you take out that big stogie. The ladies will be afraid if you take out that big stogie infront of them.... Things sure have changed since mama died, now you even see ladies like Julie Roberts with a big stogie in her mouth on the cover of the magazine…. Kinda makes you week in the knees. Freud |

`Dear* You are tooooooooooooo much!! This had me laughing but then it had me thinking about my "talk" with my own mother....she handed me a booklet and walked away. It's a shame that something so important is not easy to speak of with our children....believe me I will not make the same mistake with my children!! Thank you for sharing this! |

Ball, Good reminder in lovely poem. I must confess, however; I had to read the replies before it sank in, now I know!! You are quite the storyteller, poet. Thanks, Marcy PS: glad you ask what the "Mickey" was. I didn't know either. hehe |

LOL! Well, its good to know that when my mind was in the gutter when I read the title it wasn't just me! This was cute. Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau" |
