Passing on the street...you would notice him, For he walks with an air of importance. Something in his stride makes you step back. You don't know what he's thinking. His face is a mask. He smiles easily, but it doesn't reach his eyes. You don't know why...sadness, mere apathy? You are not expected to know for you have never met. But me...I should know. How disturbing---- That I know not much more than a stranger. |

I really enjoyed this poem and I know exactly what you mean. Often It can be the other way round to, that someone thinks they know you, but you know that really they don't, they just see what they want to. Makes you wonder who's at fault. It's so strange that it's so difficult for us to get through to one another sometimes. Strange too that some people are afraid of being understood. |

It is disturbing to pass people by and see little life in in their eyes, I once saw a few heroin addicts on the street, their eyes were bulging and they had these vacant stares very disturbing. well I am ranting here. really enjoyed your poem, very haunting. ------------------------ "I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else"-Richey Edwards "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time". Baltimore Grotto "Libraries gave us power Then work came and made us free What price now for a shallow piece of dignity" Nicky Wire, A design for Life. manic street preachers "Rock 'n' roll is our epiphany Culture, alienation, boredom and despair" |

Thank you all for your comments. It's interesting. What I was thinking when I wrote this poem isn't the same thing that I think when I read it now. I get so much more out of it now and I'm not sure that makes any sense. But anyhow, Thanks. "That man has shown himself great who has never grieved in evil days and never bewailed his destiny." --Seneca |

~TA, this is a great piece. When a smile doesn't reach the eyes...there is this emptiness there...this unfinished sort of look. Also,...to think you know someone and then to realize that you can't figure all of them out or don't know all you thought is also unfinished in a way. Great poem anyhow,...even if I am way off base. I like this. *Peace. |
