SHE SLEEPS She sleeps, an angel in my eyes Fallen to me from foreign skies. What whispered Fate has offered this, As star-crossed dreams await first kiss? All emotion welling within, A longing to touch tender skin. Eyes in dreaming yet hold me still, As passion cries to have its will. Dare I touch these silken tresses? Dare I chance her sweet caresses? Kiss these lips wet with a pleasure Taken beyond means of measure. To a realm passion discovers By the dawn, once friends, now lovers... Cherished in a moment fleeting Of love felt in eyes first meeting. Have I not set her above me? Why can't I just let her love me? Why does doubt yet run through my head, Seeing this angel in my bed? For yet I wait, all thought turning From this feeling within, burning... To notions, seemingly colder, God, how could I even hold her? With a promise yet unspoken In healing of hearts once broken? By chance, faltered, catered the vision Given unto indecision? Is this "love" not set before me? Why must Darkness yet implore me? By all bearing my heart yet keeps. Dream I, awake, while heaven sleeps. Michael Anderson |

beautiful images, I love the subtle conflict in the verses. a fantastic poem. This poem intrigues me Sir Michael, as you seem to be warring with yourself upon things that only Fate may design...think on that one for a bit, will ya?? Very emotional...I take my leave... Open arms can be the most fragile in the world... |

"Have I not set her above me? Why can't I just let her love me? Why does doubt yet run thru my head, seeing this angel in my bed?" Exquisite images...the finest I have read. I have thought these same thoughts recently..except she wasn't in my bed. James |

Great work, Michael. Could that be a sunbeam piercing the Darkness? I think it is... Looking forward to more like this. LW Friends are friend forever if the Lord's the Lord of them and a friend will not say never cause the welcome will not end. --Michael W. Smith |

It seems that you've been laying awake at night and doing some serious thinking while confusion is whirling about. Your heart and mind are fighting with each other but you must let one of them win or you'll be forever tormented. This was beautifully writen Michael, and once again, I hope I have not misinterpreted this as I seem to do so often. ~Sheri |

Exquisite in its ponderous torment--I know you hear this often, but first time I've said it---you've outdone yourself...and that,if you happen to be incredible, Michael, is not so easy to do... This one I print for my special book---a delight to read over and over....thanks. |

It certainly is wonderful to come back and see another of your great poems at the top where I can see it. Beautiful conflict isn't it? Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau" |

"Dare I touch these silken tresses? Dare I chance her sweet caresses? Kiss these lips wet with a pleasure. Taken beyond means of measure." So much beauty in these lines. So much content...so much desire. Myself...I could not resist..I would partake. James |

Incredible writing Michael ... I do hope you'll allow yourself the "pleasure" ... the recipient of your romantic heart would be a fortunate woman indeed! Exquisite work ... Best wishes, /Kit |

Wow! Micheal that was so romantic and beautiful. Sometimes when we let ourselves think too much, life passes us by and at times we regret that we never took that chance. Take your chance Micheal. Kat |

In dawning bed the angel dreaming -- (In truth less perfect than in seeming)-- What peace might silent watcher seek Where lashes rest on slumb'ring cheek? 'Neath tranquil lids, a stormy vision That roils with doubt -- with indecision -- Should throat be bared with whispers spoken, Then wake to find illusions broken? A gentle touch -- a call to waking -- Is this sweet promise worth the taking? 'Twixt earthen eyes the answer calling: "The chance to fly is worth the falling ..." Dismal expectations, indeed. There is something to be said for setting your feet on the ground so that your eyes may ever be turned to the Sky ... --Me Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest |
