This one was inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream, by Shakespeare. Rhyme of the Countryside Sunrise, day is new over hills and dales, briers and pales, overhung with sweet scented bowers, and overgrown with oxlips and foxglove, tall, swaying towers, through ivy, thick and green, and grass, with a glimmering sheen, sunlight spill in daylight hour. Quiet day over foamy spray water softly gurgles in month of May. Birds sweetly sing and wind gently whispers in quiet daylight hour. Insects hum fearies to sleep come moonrise they up and play with small summer bells and tinkling harp they sing their fearie queen to sleep. Sleep, Faerie Mother, rest on flow'ry bed, sleep, Titania, sleep, for in gentle summer dreams your Oberon comes. Hope you like it. ![]() |

Lily - this is simply lovely - Oh, how I wish there had been the internet when I was young and a Passions forum, so I could share 'em --) But have never seen oxlips. It stumped me for awhile in the beautiful garden you portrayed as I pictured this big OX with LIPS ![]() ~netswan |

Well, oxlips grow in England. I've never seen them either, I got the name from A Midsummer Night's Dream. |

Oh newswan, an ox with lips oh scary thought. ![]() anyway, lily a lovely poem, I think you should submit this in the poetry challenge forum for Isis's new challenge about favourite nature spots. A wonderful poem, I could just picture myself strolling "over hills and dales, briers and pales, overhung with sweet scented bowers, and overgrown with oxlips and foxglove, tall, swaying towers, through ivy, thick and green, and grass, with a glimmering sheen, sunlight spill in daylight hour". ------------------------ "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? " Douglas Adams. "Here chewing your tail is joy" Richey Edwards "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time". Baltimore Grotto |
