Her name was Lena

Her name was Lena, Lena fair
With sea blue eyes and long dark hair
A willowy walk and peaceful pose
And cheeks as pink as velvet rose

But deep inside the pretty face
Below the simple lovely grace
Resided an immeasurable strife
Unbearable in her young life

And so she wandered in the street
But never would accept defeat
She left her home at age sixteen
But still pursued her teenage dream

Her name was Lena, Lena fair
Her courage was beyond compare
For in those days, such a disgrace
And criticism she would face

But she stood tall and through the years
She never gave in to her tears
She somehow managed to survive
And found a job and stayed alive

She lived in rented rooms alone
But finished high school on her own
Without the love to see her through
A kiss and hug she never knew

But on her graduation day
She knelt upon the floor to pray
A piece of parchment she unrolled
And in the middle finely scrolled

The name of Lena, Lena fair
With deep blue eyes and long dark hair
I look at it in cherished awe
Diploma hung upon my wall

Remembrance of the years gone by
I think of her and start to cry
My mother’s name so finely scrolled
Upon a parchment growing old

I run my fingers cross the page
Though so much love to me she gave
Much greater yet her strength through strife
Has served me well for all my life

The name of Lena, just to think
The courage scrolled within this ink

Oh, Elizabeth~

The magic of the pen
filled in the inkwell of the heart.
No lovelier words as those written
here with your understanding heart
of compassion and graciousness.

This is so beautiful, Liz, flowing words, swept me away...

Regards, sudhir.

 Life is like a painting,
That in an art gallery is left hanging,
Though many come just to look at it,
A very few actually come to enjoy it.
