I thought I had the talent, I thought I had the grit-
To make it to the Finals, at least I didn’t quit…
I’ve had a lot of good times, and some times I won’t forget-
I look like I’d been rode real hard, and then been put up wet.

Scars, and limps, and aching joints, I really am a sight-
I toss and turn on those hard beds in motels every night.
I no longer make the big shows, I just take what I can get…
You do that when you’ve been rode hard, and then been put up wet.

I’ve known a lot of women, I guess I must admit-
And some I could have married, if I’d had the sense to quit.
I couldn’t see the nine to five, or being some tame pet-
I’d rather feel I’ve been rode hard, and then been put up wet.

The road to fame and fortune, is full of bumps and spills-
A kid don’t realize it, but it seems it’s all uphill…
So boy, got to college, the rodeo forget…
Or some day you will find that you’re… rode hard and put up wet.

Sometimes the choices we make are ones with long lasting and far reaching consequences. It would be nice if the younger ones would learn from our hard won wisdom, but if they are anything like we were, they won't. Great poem, again!

Slinger~
Well, I'll be the first to admit that I've had days like that !
Just love the way you tell it.

LOL  Thanks a lot for the memories.

This was a saying among the neighborhood kids where I grew up...far from a ranch or rodeo.

I still love the saying and even more...I love your poem !!

Made me smile some and ache some, too.

Gunslinger, this was an enjoyable read.
