in plain type is the american boy's tale in bold type is the china boy's tale I like to watch my Daddy laugh I like to watch my Momma too Passing round the coffee table A project like family’s do I like to watch my father preach And mother pray for us all We have to pretend we’re tourists In a bus that soon will stall I like to peel off the labels Place them on the paper colored brown Why must the wrapping be so blah? Why not a sports car or a clown I have a Bible it is brand new There’s no dedication or a name If it were discovered I could die For all of China it's the same These Bibles look quite funny The letters all look the same I think just for the fun of it In one I’ll write my name My mother told me never bring My Bible on our mission trip Where we are forced to hold our church To escape Red China’s grip So Mommy and Daddy and me We take them to the pastor He gives us another load to wrap And we pledge to do them faster I ask my mother why we’ve stopped She pleads I be quiet and just pray But silently my little dear And we shall be free another day I feel so good to help another Even if I’ll never meet them They I hear are suffering I wish somehow to greet them “What is this a Bible I see?” The officer flips through my book I prayed he would be kind to us And I saw surprise in his look Where are the presents right now? The Bibles we mailed way back I hope they are doing quite good As Bibles they do have that knack “It’s not mine…” “Silence I say!” “Sir we chartered this forsaken bus What is found in it officer Can’t be proven belongs to us!” It feels so good to share my time With my family and with God I love to send these Bibles Even if the languages are odd “You are saved all you wretches In English written here in blue ‘Hi my name is Matthew D.’ So I’ve no proof it belongs to you” I wonder where that one Bible is You know the one I wrote my name I hope someone got a real kick Our languages really are the same Our little blessed congregation Will study the Word how we must There'll be more Bibles I’m not saddened In our God we place our trust [This message has been edited by wayoutwalt (edited 05-23-2000).] |

This is a lovely little poem-story, Walt! I love your style! Love and hugs, Lizzie "Poetry is the true expression of my soul, it is my ultimate means of communication. It is my rainbow of delight." |

wow Walt. I wonder where that Bible is, too. I hope someone did get a kick out of it - languages are the same in so many ways. Enjoyed - this made me smile ~netswan |

We sometimes forget how hard it is in other countries to be a Christian. We take our freedoms for granted here. Thanks for the reminder, Walt, and I just felt a little nudge to pray for the oppressed in other places. Denise |

That was so good it made me cry . Thanks for the reminder of things we take for granted. It was simply awesome. Wow ~Susie "If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man's life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility." ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow "Driftwood" |

We are free indeed! In more than one way. Walt you've done a great job showing what drastic difference there is just trying to practice faith in God from one place to another! You should have blessed us in Spiritual with this. I hope you will when you're done with it here. Have someone move it over for you ok? I love it, it's a terrific piece! <*\\\>< God does have a sense humor. Just take a look at the platypus! |

i'll keep out the sentiment, the morality play (and even the capital letters) in my reply. you manage to take a sore subject and make it fun to read, as well as help us understand it more. thanks for that, walt. keep writin'! m. |
