One Special Mother

Another day of endless reprimands
Still one more day of "Stop!" and "Don't!" and "No!"
Rebelling children fighting your demands
Again to end with nothing good to show.
Though efforts seem too futile to maintain
And lack of progress permeates your view
you'll find your work has never been in vain
That wondrous day when you recieve your due.
For children grow and lose their childish ways
And come to realize that who they are
Was purchased with the pain of stress filled days
And find their mother has to bear the scar.

That day they'll face the awesome debt they owe
And thank the kindest mom they'll ever know.

This poem surely tells a story!  Motherhood, though marvelous, is a ton of work.  I especially loved the last five lines.  Lovely.

How astute of you to recognize how
much work that mothers do.

Precious poem, David

Oh, so true, David! I remember well those days of feeling I was accomplising absolutely nothing, especially during those teen years. Now I am blessed with two wonderful daughters who now appreciate and understand everything that I had attempted to do. Beautiful sonnet, David!

David~
What you have written here is so true and many of us will relate, those years in our lives when all we do is rebel and do not take any advice from mum but once we are mature we realise that the advice mum gave was worth it's weight in gold, sometimes we listened but most often we didn't and we learned by our mistakes.
Thanks for sharing this
Tracie~
