And so came he to barren land,
planting flag to boast his kingdom.
Riding steed,
a conqueror's need:
He held my hand
to own my fingers...

and all the dark clouds I forgave,
till stumbled I into my grave;
and still I begged to understand---
'til I spied shovel in his hand...

In truth, this light I can't deny.
Forebearance in a crypt--I'll die.
Each day a shovelful of earth,
each night another demon's verse.

A premonition of death? Dark stuff, I really love the last verse it sent a shiver down my spine. Great poem.

Mysteriously chanting. Not whipping up a spell are we?
If so have mercy on me mistress as it seems you have found a better way to use forbearance than have I.
Thanks Serenity

serenity,
this one shows the pain of knowing only the same loss and sadness continually. . . the feelings are quite evident. . . but you will survive. . .

Excellent poem my friend. . .

 It's amazing
How you make your face just like a wall
How you take your heart and turn it off
How I turn my head and you lose it all ...
And it's unnerving
How one move just puts me by myself
There you go just trusting someone else
Now I know I put us both through hell ...
I'm not sayin
That there was nothing wrong
I just didn't think you'd ever get tired of me
And I'm not sayin
We ever had the right to hold on
I just didn't wanna let you get away from me.

Wow - this just plain Rocks serenity.  Shook me to the core with this one you did.  Love the lines:

"He held my hand
to own my fingers..."

"Each day a shovelful of earth,
each night another demon's verse."

I think I may know your demon personally... or at least his sister, well done, dear.

That was a truly wonderful poem.     i enjoyed it very much.  Wonderful depth.
