Give And Take

You captured my heart,
So I gave you my hand.

I gave you my life;
You gave me a band.

I sought out your closeness;
You held me at bay,

I offered my comfort;
You pushed me away.

I worked alongside you;
You relinquished your load.

I asked for your help;
You only said, “No.”

I pleaded for insight,
But you would not hear

I told you you’re losing
The one you hold dear.

You became blind,
Seeing only yourself.

And I wasn’t content
To remain on a shelf.

You finally left me
And I’m in your debt;

I’m now freed from the pain,
While you’re chained to regret.

You've a bittersweet theme here, Brandyn - in a very nicely crafted poem. If only we could learn to appreciate what we have while we have it, eh??..

Fabulous read sir! Standing ovation from me!! This packed a punch! You certainly know how to "shine" through the rain...I just loved this! Tender, yet strong! It does feel good to be freed from pain, doesn't it?

Brandyn* You've just looked into my soul...this is such an amazing piece. The whole thing was written with bittersweet perfection but the ending was especially powerful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this.
