Sleepy Eyed Daze Last night, I fell asleep to the chorus of the frogs, this morning, I woke up to the chirping of busy cheerful birds I lay, my head cuddled into my pillow as the sun poured through my window blinds and my mind,in its sleepy eyed daze, wandered to another place and time. A daydreamin' sort of place -- A place that can be again if mankind would all pitch in. In a hazy cloud of a dreamlike state - I roved the valleys and climbed large trees who waved gaily their branches at me Children laughed in the fields while animals passed without any fear - the sun shone a beacon in the sky, not too hot, not too dry -- as the wind gently blew a white cloud by This was a strange land, this mother earth - not a plane in the sky - or a telephone line - or a car or a factory puffing out billowing black smoke into the innoncent sky Horses galloped majestically -- while the river - fresh and clean sported shiny fish who dove through the air, to dive back to peacefully swim again The food chain did not seem to exist - and I wandered through the land, pondering on this. Mother Earth was meant to have a way to eat -- some eat grass some eat wheat, while others eat meat. Without this chain, the earth would be mighty full, and this would never do, although it does seem rather cruel. I stretched, and yawned out of my dream and realized that mankind does not belong - and that was obviously what was wrong. A square squishing itself into a round peg went buzzing through my head. Now, eyes opened wide - I knew it was time to do or die! Each life form was meant to live and then pass on-- in a land that plush with grass and trees and then mankind started taking over pompously. We have pillaged too much from this dying land, and it is time for each of us to atone for our mistakes - taking each precious day - and making a goal to stop human waste. I will do something each day, will you? "To mother earth may we start to heal your pain!" April 18, 2000 Teresa King www.tipsfortop.com |
