With proper motivation, Give or take a year or two, Within a normal lifespan, You can be a better you. Learn to sublimate base cravings, Control sordid appetites And learn to eat your tofu In gentlemanly bites, Curb your tendency to ogle, Your propensity to leer, Your penchant for addressing girls As "Sweetie," "honey," "dear." You can sign up for hypnosis To curb your gross addiction To magazines that specialize In cheap detective fiction. You can practice meditation, You can exercise each day. You can even hire a guru Who will teach you how to pray. You can write into a calendar Commitments you must keep. You can learn to be efficient Hearing tapes while you're asleep. You can be oh so much better, If only you will try. And while you're working on it, You may just kiss your life goodbye. |
