Fool's BloodThe question, though solemn, I ask now of Night, "Will darkness lay ever apart? Will breaking day's waking open, fragrant, the sky and cradle, in reverence, my heart?" The answer, with Nighttime's swift soul~baring glance falls blow by deadening blow, "You dare request now an answer to this as if, in earnest, you did not know? There can no longer rise the morning light, there cannot wake, dead, the dawning. Now leave me to my blackening task!" Night turns away, still yawning. And somehow to bed, I foolishly find my way through my tearstreams' hot stinging, to never more know the pound of his heart and never, sweet, breathe to his singing. How shall I live on in this now silent shade with no symphonies, lilting and turning? The words with which, gently, he captured my soul and still of my heart are they yearning? Moving off to fitfullest slumber I fall with lessons of love to be heeding... No more will I plead for Night's comforting call when for my lover my heart is still bleeding. Claire |

Hello Claire I hope this is a poets angle into that cardiac condition brought on by unrequited or extinguished love, rather than a personal experience. If it’s the former you deserve more replies because it was exquisite if it was the later then you deserve more replies and a hug. Btw how’s your foot? Craig Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool: But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet. |

damn this is AWESOME Claire...truly... its beauty is dressed in its dark sadness... but its so emotionally perfect... and such an awesome ending verse... "scared of you" and your poets pen my girl... now Ill just take my poets envy and stroll on out...after one more read *smile* jm It's amazing How you make your face just like a wall How you take your heart and turn it off How I turn my head and you lose it all ... And it's unnerving How one move just puts me by myself There you go just trusting someone else Now I know I put us both through hell ... I'm not sayin That there was nothing wrong I just didn't think you'd ever get tired of me And I'm not sayin We ever had the right to hold on I just didn't wanna let you get away from me. ~MB20~Leave |

Craig, thank you...this one was actually written with rather a swift sweep of the page, I'm afraid, set upon by what felt like a broken heart. I believe now that it was merely a case of revealing myself as a fool...hence, the title. Thank you for asking after my foot...it is fine now. (and I could really use that hug if you're still offering...) Janet, your enthusiasm is striking...thank you for letting me know you enjoyed this. Not to be afraid of wee little mee though...I'm just a harmless, doddering old poet... ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Meadowmuse, this is the very reason you continue to be one of my favorite poets. You can blend the most horrid of darkness with exquisite beauty and come up with a stunning poem that is uniquely your own. Wonderful, as always. *Krista Knutson* "Lonliness is the human condition." *Mark Twain, in the book "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"* |

sigh - I can feel your aching in this one, Claire. I'm not a big fan of sleeping alone, either... can relate only too well to the "fitfull slumber" part of this. Wishing you smiles Michael |
