Some people need the canine breed (Lord knows, I'm not one of 'em.) If you ask me, I just can't see Why anyone would love 'em. I used to ride through countryside Upon my trusty Schwinn, Until one day, one took away A portion of my shin. And often too, when strolling through A park's extensive green, My restful mood by barking crude Is rendered unserene. "He loves to play," the owners say, "He wouldn't hurt a flea." "I believe you but, please take your mutt A hundred miles from me." And so it goes. Oh I suppose I should learn to accept, In Nature's plan, this "friend of man," But look where I just stepped. |

Dom~ Guess I was hoping that you were just joking ... Try to look at it this way Poor, poor pup in stepping up has to step over the mess MAN has made ! I love my dogs and everyone else's dogs. Shucks, I've even got room for an old dog like you ! Oh yeah ... like there's just something about a Schwinn man. And my pup without fail, will still wag his tail to let me know he cares .. All I need to do is show him that I, too love him as he loves me. He'll 'wiggle' all over and still win me over with a heart that loves with glee. One RESPONSIBLE, loving and caring dog owner here ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

I'm sorry I too love my mut, she is just the best and it's not the poor dogs it's the irresponsible owners of the poor things. I don't agree with owners letting their dogs poop everywhere, run all over the place with no regard to others, let off leads to fight other dogs and wonder into my front yard to scare my poor moggy but I don't blame the dog I blame the human thats suppose to be on the end of the lead. After all that I must say while I didn't agree with your poem I did think it flowed well and was written well But i know where your coming from but please don't blame the poor old dog dog lover Tracie~ Love is the life of the soul... It is the harmony of the universe |

I wouldn't last a single minute without my dogs. I think if you are a responsible dog owner then there is room for all in this world. My boys are the highlight to each and every day for me. It sounds like unforunitly you keep meeting the wrong dogs and owners. I enjoyed your poem. Marina |

Are dogs necessary? Is the home we live in, the cars we drive, the computers with which we post these poems necessary...no, but they make the world a much nicer place to live. Same goes for dogs...they've been a part of the family since I was two. Couldn't live without one.... warmhrt the poet's pen...gives to airy nothing A local habitation and a name ~ Shakespeare |

I was wondering the exact same thing early this morning as the neighbors dogs barked me awake... I am a cat person. Never have understood the necessity of dogs...LOL... have a lot of friends who LOVE their dogs and wouldn't part with them and who say they are a big part of their families... but i say, who needs bad breath and drooling? hehe people will probably hate me for saying all this... oh well... enjoyed your poem |

I only have one dog and he's real quiet and doesn't shed so in my life this dog is necessary to my emotional well being. I think the owners have a lot to do with the obedience/disobedience of a dog. If properly trained they are a joy to own. BTW I did like the poem and it is understandable why you feel this way. Poetry~ Words falling on paper, painting a dream. Shawna R. Holder Boise, Idaho |

Oh Dom this was delicious -----are dogs necessary? hahahah VERY few get my vote. I can't stand to see mankind tie them up. I can't stand to see an abused animal. The groveling just floors me ---aargh. But, yes, they are necessary -- so many dog lovers and so many pets that are treated as children ---- And a good dog -- truly can't be beat. That dog would be trained to poop in the woods as mine is ----) And they will not chase bikes, or your chickens or get into your garbage cans, and would not wander off the property. The will not bark unnecessarily They know at least 25 human words and come when you call Those kinds of dogs are worth their weight in gold. Good luck in finding one like mine! They are rare and far inbetween. netswan |

I am thinking one should not discuss religion, politics, or dogs in poetic company. I love Shakes, yet your poem made me laugh. You're just joking anyway, right? |

I got a good laugh from your poem Dom. Cute topic! I've been bitten, chased, loved, pawed and cuddled by dogs and wouldn't change a moment ... I love them! /Kit |
