I am both gleeful and depressed < !signature-->I wonder if the middle is compressed I hear a voice out of the past I see my mother say it won't last I want to be with her soon at rest I am both gleeful and depressed I pretend to always have my humor I feel depression grow its tumor I touch upon being a poetic king I worry just about everything I cry over the matters that I wrest I am both gleeful and depressed I understand the ups and downs I say there is no middle ground I dream of finding an inner peace I try not to think of death's release I hope I've not made you more stressed I am both gleeful and depressed The doctor said, "You're almost dead. Don't eat green bananas no more." The sick little monkey groaned and said, "But that's what I 1-2 the 3-4." from The Monkey--Shel Silverstein [This message has been edited by wayoutwalt (edited 05-01-2000).] |

Great poem. I like it. In fact, I find that I like most of your poems. Go figure. There is something inside me and I know it's good, but understanding is misunderstood. |

WoW, I'm very glad then that I posted XAngel's challenge when I did...I know that many needed some release. You did a splendid job with your response, and I know of the hardships and pain you've been through. Thank you for allowing a deeper glimpse, and for being a friend. Alicat |

Walt, at the risk of sounding trite, you could have written this poem for me. I'm terribly glad you wrote it for you, though, and thank you for sharing it here for the rest of us. Such a good way to express this. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Whatever you am, Walt, is good enough for me. You're a good man with strong values and a deep sense of right....and you're a 100% certifiable fruitcake...who could ask for anything more?!?! ![]() |

I think your poem speaks to most of us...the human curse of emotion. But then, what would life be without it? Nice work.... warmhrt the poet's pen...gives to airy nothing A local habitation and a name ~ Shakespeare |
