Theres a lot of personal meaning to this poem, and it would not be understood fully without great explanation. The point is, he's my very close brother-in-law and lost his mother one year ago, he also lost most of the ability to have fun. I'd like to know if my point comes across, your comments are appreciated. Laugh Again From a brother-in-law of Irish decent To a brother-in-law who seems so discontent Free your mind of constant torment And be a cheerful old man, with a back so bent Who wants a Dad, Husband, or Brother-in-law? Who has lost the gift to have fun Making others laugh - laughing himself no more. Think of the gift your Mother gave too Life- To be lived to the end, without doubt or despair It's rich for me to say that now to you. Because you know I've also had my share. Life is not life, without doubts or a care. We care, we love, we hold onto the past. Stop. Just think of the good times, you've had, we've had They last. Memories of our children acting the ass Or better still the one I married, that's worth a laugh Dishcloth in hand and dusting the hearth Now tell me that didn't bring on a big smile You're a liar Dick, it did. I can see it, a mile. So think of more good times if that did the trick What about in the pub with your old friend Dick He thought the dry cleaners was a bit of a crack But then went home to Etthy. That set him back. Tony the dentist, and Dick Casey's teeth I wonder if they're still out Or buried somewhere in Meath Remember Galway and the go cart track Richard fell out and Damien pulled him back Don't forget Trobolgen, the kids never will Our deluxe little cottage perched up on the hill. What about the single beds on the holiday of doom And the barrel full of babies in Bill's front room Remember the day, with brides and Grooms O' **** not the wedding album it's far too soon. What about the steps of Castletown church, it was noon You know! Marry O'Grady's baby, must be due soon And don't forget Margaret. Let's face it, who? Can. She'll never again buy milk from the back of a van I nearly, forgot. The green flashing man So all in all Dick we've had some good laughs Lets continue, we're not finished yet and not daft Don't misunderstand me my friend. I am not suggesting you forget; just amend Life after all is for living It must not be a living hell Mine has been at times Yours too. I can tell For only a brother-in-law, I may be But these words are meant and sincere you see For you'll not find a truer friend, than in me. Terence Shaun Lesser - 15 April 2000 |

Hi Peter Peter, This is wonderful, you have taken much time to bring back good things to mind and when someone is lost in greif it helps to remember the good times. Well done my friend, Cerenity |
