Feeding Wild Geese They waddle up on leathery feet. Their long necks craned. Their dark eyes shine. They eat my offering of wheat. I sit and watch them as they dine. They hang around awhile to show They have good manners and they stay Until it's nearly dark to go Back to the lake at end of day. They call and others join their band And cluster close; a feathered isle. I watch them drift away from land. Their muted mutters make me smile! what a gentle soul you are... lovely read the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

Betty Lou, what a clear and refreshing sketch! For two wonderful years I lived by a creek where Canada Geese sometimes came right up on the lawn... such a perfect depiction here -- lovely phrases! Lary |

pegasus111: Thank you for your sweet comment. I love all creatures great and small.....to borrow from a famous quotation! Geese are really wonderful and fun to have around. Betty Lou Hebert |

Lary: Thank you for reading and for your nice comments. I can appreciate the setting you describe and know what a treat it is to have geese on your doorstep. Some people complain about the deposits they leave behind, but we never have found it that bad and a good hosing does away with it. Small price to pay for their company! Betty Lou Hebert |

We have fields planted for the geese in the winter time. They don't come up close though, too much traffic. Great poem. Joyce |

Joyce: What a great thing to have fields planted for the geese. i think life gets harder for them all the time, as well as many other forms of wildlife. We have several pairs nesting at the confluence of the two creeks, here. We can hear them honking away, but seldom see them. When the babies start moving around though, we will. Betty Lou Hebert |
