Hail to the Other Heroes All heroes don’t always get their rightful due, Some heroes are easily overlooked by me and you Although we appreciate all the fine officers and firefighters, Paramedics, nurses, doctors, and ambulance drivers And the many, many more that deserve our recognition, During America’s times of need, we thank you all for your dedication. But, allow me to bring to your attention A different kind of hero serving our great nation. They are our four legged friends, and there’s much to be said For these trained specialist, do the job we can’t, instead. I was humbled to learn of these talented teams That can hear injured people’s often, faint screams. The first teams are recruited to locate people that still live “Time” is so important and their devotion is to give The second teams are sent in to search and to find the unfortunate victims of tragedies, so unkind. Although painful, families need closure and an end. These dogs are honored for being man’s best friend. |

Thanks, Joyce. I wrote this several months ago after seeing a special about these teams. I was impressed with their devotion. Melton |

Beautifully said, Betty. We must not forget the trainers who spend many long hours with these unsung heroes. A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |
