In the black and moonless void I see that pale and nameless face a thousand different times it seems and in a thousand different ways it haunts me in a restless sleep invades my every waking hour a sneer fixed on that pulpy mouth the clutch of danger in the air it whispers softly in my mind insistant as a spoiled child clever lies all wrapped in silk themes recurring endlessly “do it now, no one will know you know you want to, dont kid me just once more, it’s so easy; see, if you fall just lean on me” spin away, go quickly now block out the panic swirling there control the urge, be strong somehow it must not win this deadly duel think of something, anything throw your thoughts to another place look upward for forgiving eyes and cast this evil from your soul seek the calm in nature’s breast lose yourself in assure skies hold a warm, soft living thing it will pass, this gnawing pain just one more hour, one more day and then the next comes tumbling in face each one much like the last steadfast against this boiling need the peace is near, just one more step block out the screams of tortured flesh the lies will fade as all lies do welcome home my wayward friend the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

This is a very cleverly written, and accurate picture of addiction! My mother was an alcholic, God rest her soul, so as an adult child of one, I go to meetings regularly to grow past the affects of it. A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

yes, you have caputured it, they feel like failures, weak....any addiction is a failure b/c it means somewhere along the way you lost control of yourself.....and you feel like the whole world is watching you, or your friends and family are watching and you fall flat on your face.. you've written this outstandingly well. thank you for this write. pegasus...yes! Interesting depiction of addiction; hits very close to home. I know the feeling, and you've described it quite well! Bravo! ![]() ![]() "...Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." --Robert Frost |

pegasus, anyone who is or knows an addict of anything, can feel your words. My Mom was an addict of several things and it took her mind long before her life. I can feel what you are saying. Thanks, ME |
