Leprechauns or Daffodils |

When I was very, very small I read a poem of great renown. (Or maybe not so small at all) I loved the verse and wrote it down. The rhyme was titled "Daffodils". And it was Mr. Wordsworth's (Will's). The picture it left in my mind Was something that I pondered on. The only answer I could find He's speaking of a leprechaun. I've never seen a daffodil On any North Dakota hill. I fancied all those little elves Dancing and laughing all the day. Carefree and enjoying themselves, Not knowing they were watched at play. They had a game in which they rolled, Their darling little bags of gold. And then as I grew up I found The daffodil's a golden flower. There were no leprechauns around In William Wordsworth's leisure hour. A farmer now, I pay my bills By raising golden daffodils. By Joyce 01/023/02 |

Joyce: A very charming poem! What a great way to make your lving, raising daffodils! Hard work too though, but must be very satisfying for you. Betty Lou Hebert |

Thanks Betty. Actually I fudged a little to make it rhyme. I don't actually do the work, I rent out my land and reap the benefits. But they pay my bills. Joyce |

This poem is so enchanting, Joyce...I love it! Hugs, Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

Thanks Ellie. It's funny what twisted ideas you get when you are small. I can remember singing a song in school before i could read or maybe I didn't have a book. I followed along singing loudly, "It isn't any trouble "just to essa my alee" I found out later they were singing It isn't any trouble "just to s m i l e" Love, Joyce [This message has been edited by Joyce Johnson (01-24-2002 08:54 PM).] |

Wonderful and sweet. Terrific tribute to one of the greats. Was it he who brought you to poetry? Just believe... |

Thank You Amusemi. It could be he did. I memorized his poem and often think of it. Joyce |
